The current iteration of "stoicism" is just a fig leaf for people to not take responsibility for their actions. "When you found out about my other girlfriend, any hurt you felt was because you chose to feel that way, my actions were solely for me, this is a 'you problem' not a 'me problem' and you just need to get over it." I'm frankly sick of it. Yes, whether or not... and how... people choose to heal from being hurt is their responsibility. But Stoicism certainly isn't this cold blooded "I can do what I want and any 'hurt' that you experience is a choice that you have made on your own behalf, leave me out of this" that its modern proponents have painted it as. They just want to use the words from some famous dead folks who can't correct them for quote hijacking to provide them with cover for their bad behavior.
