Speaking as someone who worked on writing an ATS a while back...

... this is 100% accurate but is a bit... nit picky? I don't want to say "pedantic", but the distinction between "the algorithm auto-filtered me" and "a real human glanced at my resume, didn't see the exact keyword the hiring manager said was important, or they did a search in the ATS for a keyword and I said 'VB' and they searched for 'Visual Basic' so they missed me"... that is a functionally irrelevant distinction to that person. The fact is, they didn't get considered because their resume didn't have the exact right phrase to make it past a gatekeeper.

So yes, it's accurate to say it wasn't "the ATS" or "the algorithm" filtering them, they got filtered, and they are mad about it. If anything, knowing a real person filtered them and basically turned their brain off and considered their resume strictly on keywords is even more frustrating!
