No kidding. I remember being in college and spending $100 on a credit card I couldn't afford to pay, to buy a student copy of Delphi 1. Full retail at the time (around 1996 or 1997 I think?) was something like $800 or $900. It would have taken MONTHS of savings 100% of my paychecks as a student in order for me to purchase this at full retail price.

Or I could have spent $10 or $20 a month.

And then a year or two later I'd have to pay 50% of that price to upgrade. Or maybe a 25% yearly "maintenance" or "support" fee.

That's a VERY easy decision.

Seriously, anyone who thinks "the good old days" were "cheaper" or "better" has a lousy memory.
