99 out of 100 times when I see someone talking about the end of the Roman Empire, they are using it as an example of a once-mighty power fading into the sunset due to its own corruption and decadence. The only person I know who talks about "Rome falling" as a swift thing, actually uses it as a codeword like "the eagle has landed" to indicate that something monumentally important has occurred.
